I can, You can, We can
The 23rd and 24th of January we were in Compañía de
Maria college in Santiago de Compostela with Tamara, Alberto, Angelillo and me
(Nicolas) to work for a sensitization campaign about overcoming.
Alberto did an activity about group positioning for pupils: primary’s
children (12 years old) who we receive for 2 days. In this activity, they have
to work in team to overcome a situation through a story about a boat which
sank, there is a contamination in the sea, we can’t swim, you can only across
using the remains of the boat.
The general objective of this dynamic is cooperation, all the participants
have to cross a field with hoops, benches and mats (the remains) catching
letters in the floor and forming the word SUPERACION (overcoming). But they
have more difficulties who they must overcome in order to succeed in this
activity. For example there is not enough material for everybody if they are
not coordinated. Besides they have to help people who have physical
difficulties in their own team, for example people who need wheelchair or
others with the hands attached or blind people.
To increase the level of difficulty in this dynamic Tamara and me could
help them but only in our language : Serbian and French. They didn’t understand
the Serbian but a little bit the French language and gradually we went forward
until the end.
The 3 classes needed 55 minutes to finish the game, and even they hadn’t
the possibility to overcome it whereas when we explain the solution of the
dynamic, they discovered by working with cooperation they need 10 minutes to
succeed in this activity.
Finally we had a little evaluation of the dynamic to know how to overcome
the cooperation each one each each other. What were the people who were trying
to help? Why? How did they feel the people who had already cross the field and
couldn’t go back to help the others with weaknesses? This moment was the most
important of this activity, because thanks to this evaluation the group had the
ability to analyze what they did and how is possible to overcome in order to
obtain better results.
