Carnaval

Every year Don Bosco's Centor  proposes a theme for the carnaval and prepare the event with the children. This year the theme was THE SHOWER !
During two weeks the volunteers and the children prepared disguises: shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, sponge bob, etc.
And we are participated in the parade!

(According to Annika, the location is quite useful if you realize during work that the fridge is, once again, empty.) Hello again from Olga. No doubt that EVS is a great chance to discover a new culture and get used to different type of daily life. But I am here not only to learn Spanish culture, but also to share the knowledge about my homeland Russian Federation.  It can sound strange to you, but I am not from Moscow or even not from Saint Petersburg. Everybody knows that Russia is enormous but it’s difficult to imagine any other city except these two. Let’s get acquainted with two more at least. I am from beautiful small city Cheboksary, which is situated on the river Volga. It’s one hour by plane from Moscow and we consider it as the central part of a country. To tell the truth, I am not originally Russian, I am Chuvash, and Cheboksary is the capital of Chuvash republic. We are one of more than 160 nationalities that you can find in Russia. ENTROIDO - and entire Galicia is partying!

(source: wikicommons) What's this "entroido" everybody is talking about lately in Santiago? Well, if you don't know that "entroido" means "carnival" in Galician it's quite hard to associate all the parties, disguises and the special food this magic word is implying. Generally, celebrating carnival is a phenomenon present in many different cultures of the world, whether the famous "Carnaval de Rio de Janeiro", the German and Austrian "Fasching" or "Fasnacht", or the "Mardi Gras" in New Orleans - carnival is everywhere! However, this article is going to present you a type of carnival which is unique in Spain, full of strange stuff as "peliqueiros", "cigarrones", "gaitas", "queimada" y "orellas" (the last two terms being food) - in one word, "entroido", the carnival of Galicia!
