Volunteer Day

5th of December is International day of Volunteers and it was a perfect opportunity to show to the others how the life of volunteers looks like and to make visible our contributions like a volunteers.
This day Nicolas and me went to Os Tilos -  place where Ann and Daria are working. They invite us to represent ourselves and to explain to the children what we are exactly doing here in Spain, so far away from our homes.
The idea was to answer on the children’s questions in the form of the TV show. Therefore, we came to the classroom costumed, and sat at the table like in some TV show.  Children were playing the role of the journalists from numerous TV and Radio stations with questions written on the papers. They have microphone and they were well prepared with various questions.  They were so interested to find out things about volunteering and also about ourselves, so next to questions like what is exactly volunteering job and what are we doing, they also asked questions like how many languages are we speaking, where are we living, what are we doing in free time, what we like the most in Spain and so on. Ann and Tony prepared one video about us and what we are doing here so we showed it to the children at the beginning of the “show”.

After formal part, we stayed a little bit longer with the children. They were so curious to know more things about us and we were very pleased to respond to them. Time we spent with children passed so fast and soon came the time when we had to say goodbye to them. They invite us to come again to Os Tilos and we promised that we will, another occasion with some other interesting topic.

Well, to begin with I would like to say thank you to Don Bosco for organizing so amazing events! However, it was awesome also because of the creativity of the volunteers.  So, we had 5 countries: Austria, Denmark, Germany, Spain and Ukraine.  And we started in this alphabetic order J Josipa organized an interesting game for the memory, where we also learnt some things about her country – Austria.   The second country was Denmark – and there we had a quiz. Amanda prepared exciting questions, and we all competed to know who knows about Denmark more. It was interesting, funny and creative at the same time. I even took the notes about the program she used to do it, because its really cool.   Then, we want to see the presentation of Germany! It was hilarious! We had an amazing dance! Chelly told us the translation of this German cool song and we enjoyed dancing! It was easy to understand from everyone’s face that they really did like it!

On arrival-training in Bergondo

Two months after our arrival in Santiago, the last 7 of us, who arrived the latest on their project, had our On-arrival training. It took place in a small village called Bergondo, situated close to A Coruña. In the morning of the 10th of December we took a train to Coruña where we should meet at the bus station with other volunteers. It would be the first time for us to get in contact with volunteers living in other cities of Spain, so everybody was quite curious to find out where they were from, what they would be like, if there'd be perhaps somebody from ones own home country etc.. When we finally arrived there it was crowded, 30 - 40 people waiting for us, all stranger to each other, but united in the decision to take part on an Evs project. After we took the bus to Bergondo, we got our rooms. Everybody got a room with people from other cities, so that we would be forced to socialize a little. Running Carreira Pedestre

On sunday I was running a marathon! Well, it's not exactly a marathon, it more like a quarter-marathon.... The name of the event is Carreira Pedestre. It is a 12km race trough the city of Santiago de Compostela. It's open for everybody to compete, profesionals and amateurs (such as me). This was a 35th time this race has been held, and the record was broken with 6.388 competitors.
